The Keeper of Paintings, last seen by thousands of children and families in the Palette of Perception immersive game at The National Gallery in London, is back in a new adventure.
The Keeper of Paintings and the Mischievous Masterpieces is a new game designed to accompany The National Gallery's Art Road Trip, touring the UK in 2024 and 2025 as part of the gallery's anniversary NG200 celebrations.
In this immersive mobile game, children discover that fragments of paintings have escaped from The National Gallery and hitched a ride on the Art Road Trip! The Keeper of Paintings needs the young players' creativity and cunning to lure the missing fragments out of hiding so they can be safely reunited with their masterpieces back at the Gallery!
The new game is as much about creativity as it is adventure, with young children and their families challenged to create their own masterpieces - albeit digital ones - to attract the fragments. Along the way, helped by their own personal sidekick, they will learn some of the techniques and thought processes of some of history's greatest artists, and apply them to their own creations in augmented reality.
The Keeper of Paintings and the Mischievous Masterpieces can be downloaded for free from the app stores for iOS and Android. The use of augmented reality means that it will work best on more recent mobile devices , but it can also be experienced on borrowed devices at Art Road Trip locations. Check out the tour schedule here and pop along to any of 200 public events where The National Gallery's mobile art studio is bringing art and ideas inspired by their iconic collection to life all around the country.
